Worlds of Selani Sector
Acelia – Industrial High-Tech
Type: Terrestrial Gas Giant Satellite (O-5) Temp: Temperate Atmosphere: Type I Breathable (1.001 Std) Hydrosphere: Moderate (60%) Gravity: Standard (1.01 Standard) Terrain: Plains, Scrub, Hill Day: 23.8 Standard Hours Year: 350.4 Standard Days Species: Human, Devanorian Population: 500 Million (400M, 100M) Starport: Acelia Down(port) (Standard) Government: Democracy (“Plebiscite”) Tech Level: Information Imports: High-Tech (High Tech Subcomponents, class 2A, 2B, 2C), Luxury Goods Exports: High-Tech (Class 2 High Tech), Mid-Tech
Human and Devanorian Colony world well established in the economy of Selani Sector. Relations between the two species are good, though the world is largely unremarkable, to the chagrin of the Plebiscite Tourist Committee.
Argys – Industrial High-Tech, Small Shipyard
Type: Terrestrial Standard (Orbit 5) Temp: Cool Atmosphere: Type I Breathable (0.979 Std) Hydrosphere: Moist (78%) Gravity: Standard (0.96 Standard) Terrain: Plain, Ice, Lake Day: 28.0 Standard Hours Year: 397.1 Standard Days Species: Duros, Verpine, Human Population: 900M (550M, 300M, 100M) Starport: Argysan (Standard*), Zaef (Limited) Government: Representative Democracy (“Assembly”) Tech Level: Space Imports: Luxury Goods, Agriculture, Minerals, Textiles Exports: High-Tech, Starships, Weapons
Second major colony of the Duros in Selani Sector. The major fruits of this worlds labor is in upgrading its starport to Republic-class. It’s becoming a specialty location for low-volume starship manufacture. CSD representatives were active in the last couple years, investigating opening a new Yacht production facility. Sightings of Aaldaresh-Leshi-Vumath representatives have been discounted.
Equally notable has been the growing works of Core Worlds Arms. Friendly Assembly policy has brought investigation from representatives of ProTech and Greff-Timms Industrial, though neither has yet built facilities on Argys.
Barajen – Agricultural, Mining Guild HQ
Type: Terrestrial Aquatic (Orbit 4) Temp: Temperate Atmosphere: Type I Breathable (1.04 Std) Hydrosphere: Saturated (98%) Gravity: Light (0.79 Standard) Terrain: Ocean, Island, Beach Day: 25.8 Standard Hours Year: 374 Standard Days Species: Devanorian, Drall, Human Population: 460 Million (200M,135M,125M) Starport: Baraji (Standard) Government: Oligarchy (Mining and Agriculture Guild Representative Council) Tech Level: Information Imports: High-Tech, Luxury Goods (jewelry, recreational technology) Exports: Foodstuffs (wheat/grain), Mid-Tech, Luxury Goods (rare fruits/vegetables) Starport: Baraji (Standard)
Mining Guild Enforcement Division base built under secrecy in late RY22,870 to contain smuggling and piracy around Betorok. The Mining Guild chose their base not on the inhabitated world of the system but on a terrestrial moon of the outermost gas giant. The local inhabitants of Barajen are thus largely ignorant of the details, though the economy has benefited from the "tourism" of the Enforcement Division troops, crewers, and mercs, if not the largesse provided by the Mining Guild for the leasing rights for the outer system base.
The bulk of the population consumes nearly all of the small island land masses, extending onto sea-based floating-arcologies except for the capital Baraj, which extends both airborne ("Baraj Aero" on repusorlifts) above the largest island (and original human habitation of "Baraj Terra") and around and below as an undersea arcology ("Baraj Aquos").
Betorok – Interdicted, Mineral
Type: Terrestrial Desert (Orbit 2) Temp: Hot Atmosphere: Type I Breathable (1.19 Std) Hydrosphere: Arid (14%) Gravity: Heavy (1.28 Standard) Terrain: Desert, Scrub, Plain Day: 32.9 Standard Hours Year: 360 Standard Hours Species: Human Population: 680M Starport: Betorok Industrial (Standard/Stellar) Government: Constitutional Oligarchy (“Council of Barons” and “Common Assembly”) Tech Level: Industrial Imports: [all importation is Republic infraction] Hi-Tech, Mid-Tech, Medicines, Luxury goods Exports: Minerals
Interdicted world and now Fringe haven. Renegade and recluse from the Galactic Republic and self-declared enemy of the Jedi, due to having been terrorized by a rogue fallen Jedi nearly 30 years ago. Mining Guild attempts to re-establish control (or even “liberate”/evacuate their claimed property has been viciously rejected. Republic attempts to reestablish normal relations have either been sabotaged or a disaster. Currently, the Council of Barons has openly courted various Hutt cartels to import the goods denied by its neighbors and has declared itself an “open port” encouraging any and all rogue Republic vessels (primarily pirates and smugglers) to call port, bringing needed goods and free to take valuable minerals in exchange.
Betorok is a fairly hostile world with heavy gravity and an arid climate. What water areas are present tend to be those farthest away from the more pleasant regions.
BD-020 - Brown Dwarf ‘system’
Type: Gas Giant Satellite Temp: Frigid Atmosphere: Type-II (breath mask advised.) Hydrosphere: Arid (18%) Gravity: Light Terrain: Glacier, Barren, Cave Day: 11.2 std hours Year: n/a Species: Human Population: 0-10 Starport:Limited/Landing Field Government: Corporate/Guild/Military Tech Level: Space Imports: Scientific personnel Exports: None (Scientific data)
An uninhabited “system” containing only a brown-dwarf pseudo/proto-star and its satellites. One the most habitable of the satellites, some organization (the story varies from Republic scouts to Selani to corporate or even smugglers or pirates) set up a small landing beacon and landing site that has since been augmented by semi-permanent pre-fabricated shelters. The site has since turned into an infrequently inhabited scientific station for study of the “system” primary.
There are large amounts of poisonous trace gasses like methane present in the atmosphere, though these are mostly limited towards the poles and equator, where gravity is the thinnest. Those areas (away from the landing site) should be considered Atmosphere Type-III (breath mask required).
Bidiar – Mineral
Type: Terrestrial Standard (Orbit 3) Temp: Hot Atmosphere: Type I Standard (1.02 Std) Hydrosphere: Moderate (56%) Gravity: Standard (1.03 Standard) Terrain: Plains, Fores Day: 30.1 Standard Hours Year: 370.4 Standard Hours Species: Gran Population: 800 Million Starport:Carathen Limited/Standard (Mining Guild use) Government: Corporate Tech Level: Information Imports: Hi-Tech Exports: Minerals
A fairly standard mining world, more habitable than Betorok. Populated almost exclusively by various Gran mining combines (and members of the Mining Guild), Bidiar is a relatively undeveloped world by most technological infrastructure standards, with most High Tech not economical for the miners and their families.
Carathen – Industrial (Mid-Tech)
Type: Terrestrial Standard (orbit 3) Temp: Temperate Atmosphere: Type-III (Breath Mask) Hydrosphere: Moist (80%) Gravity: Standard (0.999 Standard) Terrain: Plains, Mushroom Forest, Swamp Day: 21.1 Standard Hours Year: 344 Standard Days Species: Human, Gran Population: 500M (400M, 100M) Starport: Carath (Standard) Government: Representative Democracy ("Senate") Tech Level: Information / Space Imports: Hi-Tech, Minerals, Luxury Goods Exports: Mid-TechCarathen's local economy tanked in the short term following the Betorok situation, but has been on steady increase and most analysts think it's about on par to where it would have been normally. Consequently, there is little resentment towards the situation in the population at large except for a few "old-timers" and others.
Carathen is quite habitable but the large mushroom forests and swamps cause a large number of spores and airborne bacterias. The locals have largely adapted through acquired immunization and adaptation, but even they don't delve too close to the mushroom forests and swamps without adequete breathing equipment, if not full environmental suits.
Chare – Mineral
Type: Terrestrial Desert (orbit 1) Temp: Searing Atmosphere: Type-II (breath mask advised) Hydrosphere: Arid Gravity: High (1.4 standard) Terrain: Semi-molten, volcanic Day: 17.1 Standard Hours Year: 114 Standard Days Species: Verpine Population: 390 Million Starport: Chare Standard Government: Corporate Tech Level: Space Imports: Hi-Tech Exports: Minerals, Luxury Goods (jewelry, precious/rare metals)
The Verpine inhabitants are gaining fame in the region for their production of intricate jewelry based on some of the precious and exotic alloy combinations commonly found in the rich underground minds. Most humanoid species consider the world barely habitable and the Verpine are the only species in significant numbers, and have not seen a substantial increase due to the fallout of Betorok's production.
Delthyr – Hi-Population, Industrial Hi-Tech, Small Shipyard
Type: Terrestrial Standard (orbit 2) Temp: Temperate Atmosphere: Type-I Breathable (1.0 Std) Hydrosphere: Moist (84%) Gravity: Standard (1.001 Standard) Terrain: Plain, Coastal Day: 29.02 Standard Hours Year: 308 Standard Days Species: Duros, Humans Population: 1.1 Billion (1B, 100M) Starport: Delthyr Interstellar (Stellar), Unith Main (Standard) Government: Bureaucracy ("The Chambers") Tech Level: Space Imports: Minerals, Agriculture, Luxury Goods, Exports: Hi-Tech, starshipsThe government of Delthyr was heavily courting Corellia StarDrive as a possible shipyard site during their investigations of the region. With CSD's reluctance to announce a decision, the economy of the world remains somewhat unsteady given the large investments made by the government to the local facilities. The world was always heavily populated by Duros, though over the past 4 centuries humans have largely been emigrating to Argys and Selani while Duros immigration has increased.
Delthyr was hit particularly hard by the Betorok situation as they extensive materiel agreements lapsed. Several contracts were canceled when prices on minerals and subsequent production increased sharply in the immediate aftermath of the original incident. The human emigration is largely seen to only have compounded the woes, most of which are blamed on the Betorok situation by the general public. Local media sentiment blames the Mining Guild for being unreasonably unbending, though the Betorok don't enjoy much public sympathy for their perceived overreaction, either.
Dijiphead – Industrial Medicinal, Mineral
Type: Terrestrial Standard (orbit 4) Temp: Temperate Atmosphere: Type-II (breath mask advised) Hydrosphere: Standard (70%) Gravity: Standard (1.02 Standard) Terrain: Plain, Forest, Scrub Day: 44.4 Standard Hours Year: 292 Standard Days Species: Human, Gran Population: 700M (400M, 300M) Starport: Dijiphea (Standard), Yarrig (Standard) Government: Bureaucracy/Corporate Tech Level: Information/Space Imports: Hi-Tech, Luxury Goods Exports: Minerals (ferrous and derivatives), Medicines, Luxury Goods (Shorlaan Fixx)
Shorlaan Fixx plant illegally produced in reputedly sizable batches on Dijiphead, Yular, and recently to the newly colonized world of Muzara (all class IV infractions). Dijiphead has probably benefited the most from the Betorok situation over the long term as despite it's large mineral reserves, they were mostly unexploited prior to the incident. The historical industry of Dijiphead has been medicinal production and Med-Aid production for the sector is largest here with a not insignificant export beyond the sector, as well. The influx of mining personnel is leading to a general split in paradigm amongst the population, though it's been peaceable and a friendly rivalry is emerging between the two industries.
The Dijiphea area is the more popular and home to the human majority settlements, though there is a sizable minority of Gran interspaced. The human areas have been most successful in eliminating the toxic Sharlaan Fixx plants, which are the source of the spores that caused the Type-II atmosphere classification. These spores have have less of a physiological affect amongst the Gran, who have not cared enough to concentrate efforts in it's eradication (and harvesting of the Shorlaan Fixx plant is most common in these areas).
Fraljir – Agricultural, Industrial Medicinal
Type: Terrestrial Arctic (orbit 6) Temp: Cold Atmosphere: Type-II (breath-mask advised) Hydrosphere: Arid (12%) Gravity: Standard (1.10 Standard) Terrain: Snow Plains, Ice, Scrub Day: 18.1 Standard Hours Year: 590 Standard Days Species: Gotal, Duros, Verpine Population: 700M (400M, 200M, 100M) Starport: Fraljiri Prime (Standard), Fraljiri Secondi (Limited) Government: Representative Democracy (“Senate of Nobles” and “Commoners Caucus”) Tech Level: Information/Space Imports: Hi-Tech Exports: Foodstuffs, Medicines, Luxury Goods
Fraljir claims they'll be the next high population world after Argys, though the tourist ministry’s claims that they’ll attain that first are generally discounted due to the frigid climate. None-the-less, the local economy is strong and the populace generally content, though a small anti-human bias is present in the government, if not the general population, and has led to more than one human farming combine selecting a different world over the last century.
Jaryn-Halba – Industrial Mid-Tech and Medicinal. Mineral
Type: Gas Giant Satellites (orbit 5) Temp: Temperate / Hot Atmosphere: Type-I / Type-II Hydrosphere: Std (58%), Arid (20%) Gravity: Std (1.01) / Heavy (1.31) Terrain: Plains, Woods / Desert, Scrub Day: 24.8 Std Hours / 16.7 Std Hours Year: 502.01 Standard Days Species: Human, Duros Population: 500M (300M, 200M) Starport: Jaryn (Stellar), Halban (Stellar) Government: Totalitarian Oligarchy/bureaucracy (“Governing Administration”) Tech Level: Industrial/Information/Space Imports: Hi-Tech (restricted to techno-religious oligarchy), Exports: Mid Tech, Luxury Goods (zzonyg fruit), Medicines (zzonyg extracts)
Governed by an oppressive, though largely popular techno-religious government, Jaryn-Halba has severely restricted the access to many mostly mundane items (Class V infraction) but also high technology (a Class III infraction) and are truculent about locally restricting the narcotic zzonyg production (normally a Class IV infraction). These attitudes have aggravated the neighboring systems in the sector and are a frequent source of political controversy in the Sector Assembly.
Jaryn-Halba is actually two populated moons of the same gas giant in the system. Jaryn is the home to industrial production and Halba is the mineral world. Halba's mineral production is almost exclusively consumed by Jaryn as most of the mineral is mundane and not economically viable for interstellar export. The mining concerns of Halba are not, in fact, associated with the Mining Guild membership and the world is largely indifferent to the Betorok situation.
Muzara – Agricultural colony world. Native Homeworld.
Type: Terrestrial Standard Temp: Temperate Atmosphere: Type-I (breathable) Hydrosphere: Arid Gravity: Standard Terrain: Canyon, plain, plateau, lakes Day: 28 std hours Year: 375 local days Species: Human, Muza (N) Population: 12,000 human; 550,000 Muza Starport: Landing Field Government: Colonial Administration (human), tribal (Muza) Tech Level: Space (human), stone (Muza) Imports: Agricultural Machinery, medicines, mid-tech Exports: Foodstuffs
Colony only recently sponsored by the Brentaal League in late RY22,864 as an eye towards becoming a full fledged Agricultural Colony, supplying the nearby worlds with food exports from its fertile plains. Natives were initially aggressively xenophobic, but their concerns were pacified by Jedi activity and Republic good-will measures, as well as cautious management by the colonial government to not infringe on local rights. This was fortunate, as their numbers were discovered to be over 10 times as great as the initial survey indicated, though they’re fragmented on tribal lines and not close to unified.
Paradeen – Agricultural
Type: Terrestrial Forest Satellite (orbit 4) Temp: Hot Atmosphere: Type-I Breathable Hydrosphere: Moist (80%) Gravity: Standard (1.11 Standard) Terrain: Forest, Plain Day: 25.3 Standard Hours Year: 391 Standard Days Species: Devanorian, Human, Verpine Population: 600M (330M, 170M, 100M) Starport: Paradeen Standard Government: Democracy (pure) Tech Level: Information / Space Imports: Hi-Tech, Mid-Tech Exports: Agricultural, Narcotics (Zzonyg)
Like Delthyr and Carathen, Paradeen was hit hard by the Betorok incident. They had several contracts to both Delthyr and Betorok on the distribution of their agricultural output. Delthyr's economic woes only compounded the lost contracts with Betorok and good amounts of the perishable product was lost entirely or sold at extreme loss. A large human emigration followed the liquidation of several farming combines, though many were left without economic option and have become a sort of underclass while the fragile economy of the world has sputtered ever since.
This underclass has taken to a general fanaticism towards the occult with heavy zzonyg use and illegal production proliferating despite the nominal claims of the government priorities to eradicate it. Resentment towards Betorok, the Mining Guild, the Jedi, and the Republic is high and has only been fostered by the numerous short-lived eccentric religious movements that have come and gone in the recent decades following the incident.
Paradeen itself is largely forested with lush fertile soil. Paradeen orbits a large (1.8 Standard Mass) cratered terrestrial body with no atmosphere or hydrosphere. There are no permanent settlements on the primary though the affluent and adventurous often take trips there.
Selanis – Republic Sector Capital. Industrial High-Tech. Large Shipyard
Type: Terrestrial Standard (Orbit 3) Temp: Temperate Atmosphere: Type I Breathable Hydrosphere: Moderate (72%) Gravity: Standard (1.0 Standard) Terrain: Plain, Coastal, Wooded Day: 24.1 Standard Hours Year: 366 Standard Days Species: Human, Duros, Verpine Population: 1.1 billion (600M, 400M, 100M) Starport: Selanis City (Republic), Blue Royal Space(port) (Stellar), Jedi (Standard/Limited) Government: Representative Democracy ("Selanis Assembly" and "Selanis Senate" ) Tech Level: Space Imports: High-Tech components Class 1, 2, 3, Mid-Tech, Metals, Minerals, Luxury Goods Exports: High-Tech, Entertainment, Medicines, GovernmentCapital of Selani Sector. Original inhabited by a variety of Colonies and (Inner) Rim colonists, the pioneers intended to thrive off trade and supply to the Alderaanians and their Thaerryn Territories and in turn to receive the benefits of the technology and industrial bases built there. They’ve steadily come into their own, however, having survived the hardships visited upon Thaerrius and other sectors in the Great Hyperspace War and Hundred Years Darkness.
The current Betorok issue was largely seen as a publicity inconvenience, though recent events have prompted alarm and the urge to "do something," even if the public is divided on the proper course of action. Most local politicians merely want the issue to go away as they don't want to be seen as either dictatorial or anti-industry.
Thalomar – Industrial High Tech, Native Homeworld
Type: Terrestrial Aquatic (Orbit 1) Temp: Standard/Warm Atmosphere: Standard (1.0) Hydrosphere: Moist (88%) Gravity: 0.99 Standard Terrain: Water, Coastal, Ice Day: 26.1 Standard Year: 284.6 Standard Days Species: Human, Thalonian (N) Population: 2.9 billion (850M, 2.05B) Starport: Thalos Interstellar (Stellar), Oma Government: Representative Democracy ("Thalos Parliament") Tech Level: Space Imports: High Tech subcomponents, class 1B, 1C Exports: High Tech, Class 1 components to Selani, Low-Tech (textiles), Mercs/TroopsThe human population almost exclusively inhabits the sole central land mass. Thalomar orbits a (G7III/K8III) binary system in the first orbit. The native Thalonians are aquatic and xenophobic, though not in the extreme. They disdain modern technology and live in a pre-Industrial state and generally prohibit contact with the "native" Humans. Their avoidance of the central land mass generally make them unknown to spacefarers.
Murder in early RY22,871 on Thalos investigated by Jedi Knight Daron Fel-Nestir and his apprentice. Suspects suspected of links to Circles of Thrak until RY22,872, but did not pan out due to mysterious loss of memory by the suspects. Suspects were junior members of a cult-like brotherhood of the emergency/reserve defense force.
Vycafia – Mineral
Type: Terrestrial Ore World (Orbit 5) Temp: Freezing Atmosphere: Type-IV (Environment Suit) Hydrosphere: None (0%) Gravity: Light (0.28) Terrain: Barren Day: n/a Year: 501 Standard Days Species: Duros, Rybet Population: 390M (250M, 240M) Starport: Vycafia (Stellar), Industrial (Standard) Government: Corporate ("Vycafia Industrial") Tech Level: Space Imports: Mid-Tech, Hi-Tech, Medicinals, Luxury Goods Exports: MineralsVycafia is a barren world that rotates 90 degrees on its axis, with no atmosphere or hydrosphere that is quite rich in the minerals that make up dura-alloys and other vital spacefaring metals and minerals. The dozen domed settlements are all built on the day-side though mining expeditions frequently journey to the night side.
Yular – Agricultural
Type: Terrestrial Standard (orbit 3) Temp: Moderate Atmosphere: Type-I Breathable Hydrosphere: Standard (74%) Gravity: Standard (1.003 standard) Terrain: Plains, Coastal Day: 20.9 Standard Hours Year: 380 Standard Days Species: Human, Gran Population: 400M (300M, 100M) Starport: Yular Standard Government: "Yular Democracy" Tech Level: Information / Space Imports: Hi-Tech, Mid-Tech Exports: Agricultural, Luxury Goods (Shorlaan Fixx)
Yular is a largely unremarkable agricultural worlds except for the Shorlaan Fixx plant illegally produced in reputedly sizable batches. The Yular Democracy is stable and the farmers generally quite content with their place in the Republic.
