Theman Ar-Tauri
98 year old Human male from Coruscant. 1.716m tall, 55.1kg. He has wispy white hair and pale skin tone with slightly almond blue eyes. Wears tan Jedi robes and a gray cloak over his frail and aged body. His mustache and beard is long and groomed.
His philosophy on the Force is extremely conservative, on both the Force usage in general and particularly towards violent situations. He has worked long as hard as a diplomat pursuing the peace and justice offered by the Galactic Republic, and of the Jedi as Knights of the Republic. He is renown in the Core Worlds, though considered near reactionary by most scholars on Ossus. Theman has trained Jedi Knights 7 times, 5 of which have become Masters themselves.
Born in RY22,774 on Coruscant. Taking to Jedi training center on Coruscant as an infant and reared to adolescence and completed secondary education in RY22,789, when he was accepted for pre-Jedi training. Completed pre-Jedi training in RY22,793 where he became well known for his extreme raw strength in the Force. Was taken to Ossus for selection as a Jedi Master and was taken as apprentice by Jedi Master Odan-Urr, renown of his heroism in the Great Hyperspace War and founding the Great Library of Ossus, and it.s Council of Jedi Masters. Became Jedi Knight at age of 24 and Master at the age of RY22,811. Named Jedi Knight by Master Odan-Urr in RY22,798 and chose the path of Diplomacy, where he quietly worked in the Republic Diplomatic Corps for several years in unglamorous research and before gaining prominence during the Great Droid Revolution on Coruscant, as an advocate for the droids.
Theman distinguished himself mediating the Kerentendes-Palpatine Blood Feud between the Great Houses, succeeding where several Jedi Masters had previously failed. Theman was able to placate the impugned honor of the Kerentendes with Name concessions previously denied from the House of Palpatine in exchange for interests in the Kerentendes mercantile megacorporation, which eventually proved to strengthened both Houses. The Republic Diplomatic Corps took advantage of this diplomatic coup to resolve the brewing trade war between the several Houses Minor of the Colonies Region, and indirectly many of their patron Old Families. Theman was directly responsible for some of this progress but indirectly responsible for near all of it. The resulting successes cured much of the creeping instability in the Core Worlds and Colonies politics well into the next century.
A friend of Theman's from the Diplomatic Corps introduced him to the Chandrilan Peace Corps. On Theman's dialog with the volunteers there, he learned about the Jedi Monastery at Andwu Mountain in nearby An-Kish province. He was fascinated by the monastic order and their special techniques, which were much more aggressive than his own inclinations, yet possessed a serenity that soothed what would be his otherwise serious concerns. Theman was allowed entrance to Andwu Mountain, where he studied the training of the Masters there for much of RY22,799.
Took his first apprentice in RY22,800, completing the training begun by Master Odan-Urr in RY22,792. Proclaimed a Jedi Master by Odan-Urr at the age of 31 late in RY22,805, one of the youngest made a Master in decades. He assisted his newly knighted apprentice in his embassy to the hostile Uruqi discovered at the edge of the Slice and the Expanded Rim. The unrelenting hostility of the Uruqi stymied Republic efforts and threatened many peaceful worlds before Theman could pacify their xenophobia after nearly 3 months of dedicated work. The avoidance of further hostilities gained Theman even more prestige in the Diplomatic Corps.
Master Theman took his 2nd apprentice just before the end of the year, naming her a Jedi Knight in late RY22,811. Theman's 3rd apprentice, Corrin U'Majna, taken in RY22,810. Corrin accompanied Master Theman on his embassy to the Ziyi Sector, where he failed to completely avert the Scourge, but was able to negotiate the release of non-combatanta (and when the Ziyi betrayed their agreement, Theman led a Republic Task Force is rescuing the fugitives, as well as secured the fleeing of Republic civilian transports. Named Corrin U'Majna a Jedi Knight in RY22,819. Later that same year, took his 4th apprentice, the 12 year old Human Macen Diu Dantareen from the Jedi Training Center on Ossus whom he trained in realtive seclusion for the next decade, before events in the Galactic Core necessitated his participation.
The course of the 4th Diamalan-Ishori War severely affected the peace of the Core Worlds for the 4 years it raged as well as the decades of cold war that both preceded and followed the Republic's intervention. In RY22,828 the Republic's mediation (led by Jedi Masters Xeluvwehy and Kaeryn Brightstar) failed, and within 3 days, there had been 5 separate clashes between the starfleets of the two powers, the largest of which involved no less than 20 capital ships (11 of which were lost with all hands and 5 more crippled beyond repair). By the second week of open hostilities, casualties had risen into the tens of thousands, and an emergency session of the Republic Senate had twice failed to reach a decision on what the Republic.s response should be. Disruption of commerce through much of the Core and Colonies regions followed as the Diamala and Ishori both attempted to isolate the other from their allies, neighbors, and trading partners, which was resisted by many. The widening of the conflict absolutely necessitated action by the Republic, and the Senate was finally led to ordering significant elements of the Republic Fleet, carrying the Rocket Jumper Elite Advanced Unit and sizable portions of the Republic Army, to quell the conflict. Fearing a bloodbath, the Ministry of Defense was grateful to accept to the help of the 8 Jedi Masters, 41 Jedi Knights, and two full companies of Freedom Warriors offered by the Jedi Masters of Ossus. Master Theman was one of the Jedi Masters who offered his assistance to the Ministry of Defense. His apprentice, Macen Diu Dantareen, assisted him on many diplomatic overtures, though more than a few of these failed to gain much ground due to the conduct of the War. Theman conducted his typically strict training amidst the diplomatic missions and few unavoidable confrontations. He named Macen a Jedi Knight in RY22,830.
Not long after came the unpleasant news that his 3rd apprentice Corrin U'Majna had fallen to the Dark Side and claimed the dictatorship of an insignificant mining world at the edge of the Galactic Frontier. Theman summoned his newly knighted apprentice Macen to assist him in resolving the issue. They confronted Corrin on Betorok, in Selani Sector, infiltrating his defenses and confronting him in his newly minted throne room, slaying him in the duel that followed.
Returning from this incident, Master Theman was instrumental in putting the final Diamala-Ishori peace accords together and convincing the Diamala to sign the Peace Treaty in RY22,837 and accept the presence of Republic Peacekeeping forces on their military installations on the periphery of their border with the Ishori. Took his 5th apprentice the following year, completing his training in RY22,839. Took his 6th apprentice late in the same year, taking over the training from a Master who passed into the Force. Macen completed the training of 6th apprentice in RY22,841 and took his 7th apprentice later that year. Theman completed her training by early RY22,847.
Took as his 8th Apprentice Aji Halians, the youngest son of a noble (House Minor) family on Commenor in the Colonies Region, from the Jedi Training Center on Coruscant later in RY22,847. Theman kept Aji under his typically secluded training until RY22,851 when he sent Aji to learn from Jedi Master Dabilium of the Andwu Jedi on Chandrila. Theman hoped to pacify Aji's aggressive personality and at the same time focus it with the Andwu methods he found sound fascinating early on in his own Knighthood. All the while, he had kept up various overtures to Selani sector, trying to make amends for what he saw as the failure of his training in Corrin U'Manja. His efforts were largely fruitless, however, due to the obstinance of the Mining Guild and the instransigence of the surviving Betorok Elite.
Master Theman named Aji a Jedi Knight in RY22,858 and returned to the Republic Diplomatic Corps, continuing in attempts to broker a peace out of the Betorok situation with the Mining Guild. In early RY22,866, on a trip to Ossus to consult with Master Odan-Urr on the matter took the Caamasi Einok O'Tlu as his 9th apprentice. Late in RY22,867 Theman transferred the training of Einok to his 8th apprentice, Jedi Knight Aji Halians, planning that each could pick up some positive attributes from the other and hoping they could mediate their own shortcomings.
By RY22,865, his efforts on redeeming the Betorok situation finally seemed to bear fruit. His 4th apprentice, Jedi Master Macen Diu Dantareen, was granted diplomatic access by the Council of Betorok Barons. The diplomatic mission ended in catastrphic failure, however, resulting in the death of Macen and his apprentices. In a last desparate effort, Theman was able to secure the support to create a Jedi Temple in Selani sector in an effort to curtail the conflicts that resulted...

A Jedi must know WHEN to act. To stand by and let evil deeds happen unimpeded is to succumb to the Dark Side just as it is to openly give in to one.s fear and anger and hate. There are times when action is appropriate and when it is not. A Jedi must not act out of fear or petty anger, but out of calm rationale. When a Jedi IS moved to action, the Jedi must be swift and decisive, yet ever vigilant against the seductive emotions that will to lead towards the slippery slope that is the Dark Side.
The Dark Side expends much of its efforts and energies to disguise itself as the Light. A Jedi who is calm and at peace will know the difference and be able to tell the Dark from the Light. For this reason, a Jedi does not react from passionate emotion, but from peace. To live in harmony with the universe, with the Force, is WHY a Jedi acts. Bringing peace and justice to the sentients of the galaxy is a most rewarding endeavor when on the path of harmony, the path of the Light Side. As Jedi live, so they pass into the Force.
The Jedi Way is not easy. It requires patience, courage, and honor. There is the path of the Jedi, and the path of the Dark Side. No other choices exist for those who can perceive the Force. If you are not acting as a Jedi, you are acting as an agent of evil. A Jedi does not act out of fear, anger, or aggression. A Jedi acts ONLY while calm and at peace. Revenge is the dream of the weak. The wise knows that no enemy is forever. The Jedi is merciful. The Dark Side spends most of its energies attempting to masquerade as the Light. It is for the Jedi to find and oppose Dark Side teachings and followers, to protect the galaxy from their insidious evil.
On the Jedi
"Jedi serve the Republic and thereby the peoples of the galaxy."
The Jedi are Knights of the Republic, protectors and defenders, preserving the galactic government, that it might bring peace and justice to the galaxy. In most cases, this facilitates an open and honest relationship, showing solidarity and strength, bringing hope and heart to the populace. Other cases require more subtle and careful measures, though.
Jedi serve the Republic in many capacities. Some Jedi take the roles of diplomats, while others take the role of healer, teacher, or philosopher. Some few even liasion out with Republic constabulatory or military forces. The intelligence apparatuses of the Republic also see the assistance of the Jedi. The involvement of the Jedi in such activities, in addition to mundane service upholding the Republic against external and internal enemies, is useful in identifying prospective Jedi and potential victims of the Dark Side.
Master Theman has devoted the bulk of his years to the Diplomatic Corps of the Galactic Republic. He has strived to bring peace amidst the tangled politics of the Ancient Houses in the Core Worlds, to the aspirations and plots of the Houses Minor in the Colonies and Inner Rim, and to the machinations and maneuevers of the Trade Cartels and despots of the Expanded Rim and Galactic Frontier. When his efforts have failed, he has helped mediate peace from the conflicts that followed.
On the Force
"The Light is stronger than the Dark, but requires far more discipline."
The Force is created by life and takes its form in a broad energy field permeating everwhere, touching everything. Jedi are trained to sense, and later to manipulate, the Force. In sensing the ebb and flow of the Force, Jedi learn to distinguish disturbances in it. The most common disturbances are those that are most subtle, those created by the natural life cycle, of birth and death, of a pure course of events, though even some of these can be large, signifying momentuous acts of heroism and horrible tragedies.
The manipulation of the Force by those who are sensitive to it creates more noticeable, and usually much larger, disturbances. Using the assistance of the Force to enhance one.s own abilities creates small, but quite distinct, ripples. Using the Force to the bend the fabric of reality to the will of the Force User, especially in flashy displays of power outside of the natural flow of events, creates much larger disturbances. All of these ripples carry the mark of the Force User, allowing perceptive Jedi to note its identity.
The greatest strength of the Jedi is the power of luminous beings, not bound to their point identity or biology. To unite with the Force fully is to be able to harness the great power of the Light Side. Through such a Force-united Jedi, the Force can flow through like a tidal wave of Light. Before such clarity and peace, the cataclysmic rage of the Dark Side cannot stand. A true Jedi recognizes that that their strength is drawn not from themselves, but from the energy of life, the Force.
On the Dark Side
"The Dark Side is ultimately weaker than the Light, but it's lure requires discipline to avoid... the stronger one grows, the greater must grow their discipline lest they fall..."
The Jedi Masters of Ossus warn against using the Force without full knowledge or control, and to heed the warning of Master Bodo Baas:
"Never, Oh Master Jedi, rest easy when your pupil begins to grow anxious to learn at a pace greater than that which you have set for him... Beware, Master Jedi, lest through carelessness and inattention you let loose on the galaxy a monster..."The ancient Jedi Masters knew that too much power gathered too quickly can corrupt even the most selfless and devout apprentice Jedi. After careful research and training, the abilities of the Jedi can be practiced. However, before this knowledge should be gained, the Masters warn us to never forget the Sith, and to forever watch for their return.
Of those falling into evil, common are those who are SEDUCED by the Dark Side. They give in to their fear, anger, and hate, breaking with the tenets of the Jedi Code. The Dark Side whispers in the ears of all Force-Sensitives, of gifts of power and the ability to control the weak and of dark practices, unholy and unnatural. The Jedi learned long ago, though, that it.s gifts are given at too high a price, that of slavery to a wicked and fickle folly. The Dark Side feeds on violence, hatred, anger, and death, and it is for these reasons that the Jedi disdain the use of violence except as the last resort. Even the Jedi most committed to serving the Light can eventually fall victim to too much death and too much violence. Violence, death, and war do not make a Jedi. The Force makes a Jedi.
Also common in the fall are those who are DOMINATED by the Dark Side, by choosing the path of inaction when an act of evil is being committed. Fear, guilt, and apathy grab hold of the individual, bending its will to that of the Dark Side. Obsession with past inaction and endless cycles and combinations of fear, guilt, and apathy lead to complete subservience to the Dark Side, and often to insanity. The Jedi of old knew this and joined with the then fledgling Republic to proactively bring peace and justice to a galaxy, serving the masses, rather than ruling or ignoring them.
More rare by an order of magnitude are those who have EMBRACED the Dark Side. By selling its soul, the Force User purposely and willingly not only accepts, but seeks, the Dark Side. The Dark Side is quick to answer and reward its slave, as long as it is fed with fear, anger, hatred, and death. Eventually the Dark Side provokes and instigates such things itself, even beyond the ability of its slave.s ability to produce them. In the end, the embraced finds that it is not embraced at all, but enslaved and captured and cannot escape, the same end as if they had been seduced or engulfed.
The end result of the fall, regardless of the particular path, is being CONSUMED by the Dark Side. Eventually the darksider cannot meet the demands of the Dark Side, and it begins consuming the hapless Force-user. The archives in the Great Library on Ossus document cases of both physical and mental degradation and decomposition as the darksider.s relationship with the Dark Side develops and progresses. The darksiders often find ways of prolonging their lives, through practices either medical or through abhorrent manipulation of the Force. The hunger of the Dark Side can only be delayed and eventually darksiders are completely consumed, either by their own folly or by the dark energies they.ve unleashed.
On the Sith
"A tragedy borne of the failure of the Masters of Old to train and discipline their students. It is our duty to our predecessors to stop the Sith!"
The Sith are not merely Jedi of a twisted philosophy, but the result of a unique culture.s pefected techniques for drawing on the power of the Dark Side. Once a Near-Human species of undetermined origin, they had a fateful encounter with dark Jedi fugitives fleeing the Republic and Jedi. Even before this momentous event in their history, the Sith had relatively perfected their sorcery. With the arrival of the dark Jedi who were to dominate the ancient Sith people, they congealed into an unholy hybrid which turned the insular and fragmented society into a unified and ambitious Empire.
On Lightsabers
"Lightsaber cadences are one of the most common ways for a Jedi to commune with the Force. This communion is essential to being a Jedi. Using your lightsaber for violence is the antithesis of what being a Jedi is."
A lightsaber in the hands of a fully trained Jedi can stand up to the technologies of modern warfare. Using only a lightsaber, a Jedi can protect himself from projectiles of all kinds and cut through all matter, given enough time and effort. Even so, the greatest Jedi seldom, if ever, ignite their blades. A Jedi.s strength, all of it, flows from the Force. The more a Jedi learns and masters the Force, the more a Jedi is joined with the luminosity that is the true reality and substance of the universe- the Force, and the less a Jedi needs a lightsaber.
Master Theman makes it a habit to practice his lightsaber cadences regularly, though he always does this in the confines of his private meditation chambers. Master Theman prefers a relatively mundane lightsaber, though he uses 3 natural pontite-cut focusing crystals.
