Bounty Hunters

With all of the increased fringe activity, Bounty Hunting has also increased as many local acquisitions have flocked to the region. The Mining Guild’s Bounty for smugglers (100 Cr per ton of seized cargo) and pirates (10,000 Cr per light freighter, 20,000 per heavy freighter, and 100,000 per capital ship) operating out of Betorok has drawn many of the best bounty hunters in the region. The recent Bounty of 1,000,000 Republic Credits for the capture of Rypol Prasc and his cruiser Drake’s Star is undoubtedly going to draw some of the best Bounty Hunters in the galaxy.

Criminal Organizations

Gangs

Mercenaries

Selani Sector had always been rather sparse of mercenaries. Colonized shortly before the Great Hyperspace War, there were no great fleet actions in this area. Consequently, the area had an intact building infrastructure (though poor and mostly undeveloped) and relatively formidable defenses that induced the pirates and raiders of the Hundred Years Darkness to seek weaker and/or wealthier targets.

As the Republic stabilized and again rose to prosperity following the Darkness, Selani proved to be the strongest sector in the region, and the Republic acknowledged that by stationing then one of the most modern and strong task forces, which would form the backbone of a strong Sector Fleet and discourage mercenary activities in the region. The so-called “Silver Age of the Sith” saw only a minimal amount of activity in Selani Sector, mostly by the deployment of elements from the Selani Sector fleet.

With the recent advent of the troubles with Betorok mercenary activity has risen sharply. Betorok has openly called for mercenary companies to help its plight, though it is too poor to offer the advance payment many mercs will desire to risk a confrontation with the formidable Mining Guild, much less the Republic and possibly Jedi.

The Hutt Kadjics that are eager to gain access to the mineral wealth have brought their own share of mercenaries, however, as well as independents that wish to contract the Hutts, who are able to pay. Jorga’s organization has purchased the aid of the terrible Ler-Nevin Raiders and Bandulla’s employed the Core Chikraa Expatriates. Jorga is said to be looking for another, even more formidable group.

The Mining Guild has also contracted several companies of mercs in the region, to bolster their own Enforcement Division troops and have let it be known that they’re currently evaluating expanding merc assets. The Black Snake mercs and their leader, the infamous Uko, are the largest and most capable (and the most infamously brutal) of the groups currently employed.

Pirates

Piracy was never a major concern in Selani Sector until recently, due to the troubles of Betorok’s “Free Port.” While the RSO estimates approximately fifty starships recently committing acts of piracy (or other Class I Republic Infractions) on the hyper-lanes of Selani Sector, it has determined no more than ¼, and possibly closer to half of that, are full-time “pirates.” The Republic Fleet is projecting piracy will only increase and a debate of a buildup has reached the Senate of the Galactic Republic.

Rypol Prasc

Infamous pirate from the Thonex Cluster (Sector) in Hutt Space, Rypol Prasc is of the semi-reptilian Thonex humanoid species. Hominids who are roughly human in shape, size, and ability, Thonex are known for their scaly skins and vicious personalities. Not as common in the service of their Hutt overlords as the other species of Hutt Space, the Thonex mostly stay in their Cluster in semi-truculent defiance of the Hutt syndicates and their machinations.

Prasc, unlike most of his species, willingly took up service with various Hutt cartels and made fame as an excessively brutal hit-man/bounty hunter under the Besiliji Kadjic from RY22,854 to RY22,860. He struck out on his own and into the Galactic Republic at large late in RY22,860 and took up with various pirate groups. He was identified by Corellian Security as a member of an independent pirate gang operating near Kessel in RY22,862.

Late in RY22,864 Prasc was located by Republic Fleet Intelligence as first-mate of a Hutt privateer/pirate operating in Hutt space on an old corvette. Sometime between then and RY22,867 Prasc had acquired a mothballed Chandrilan-class Republic cruiser and outfitted it with a full hangar of older HKD Hawk starfighters. While mostly operating in Hutt Space, Prasc had been seen in the Republic and became a major target of the Corellian Sector Fleet and CorSec forces operating in the Kessel region.

By RY22,870 Prasc had answered the call of Jorga the Hutt in the Betorok situation in Selani Sector. The Drake’s Star had further gained 4 more advanced HKD Improved Hawk starfighters by this point and at least 2 light freighters loaded with well-armed raiding forces. This culminated in a successful raid/cargo run into Betorok which resulted in the capture of a Mining Guild Enforcement cruiser and the capture or destruction of it escorts. The Mining Guild responded by placing a 1,000,000 Republic Credit bounty on the Drake’s Star (or 500,000 on Prasc himself). In light of this, the RSO reports Prasc has decided to take an overdue maintenance overhaul on the Drake’s Star and a vacation to elude his bounty (presumably in Hutt Space).

His personality favors wealth, though he is often forced to sacrifice to outfit his enormously expensive and formidable capital starship. He is harsh with his crew and neither requests nor accepts input from any but his most senior officers, but his reputation attracts fringe elements wishing to get a piece of the action (and the subsequent credits).

The starship of the notorious and Republic’s Most Wanted pirate Rypol Prasc of the Thonex Star Cluster (Hutt Space). Where he got the mothballed Chandrilan cruiser none know (it’s drive signature has been altered and transponder broadcasts only the famed blazing claw pirate symbol), but he undoubtedly funds his ventures through piracy and graft as well as the “protection racket” he runs in the frontier sectors of the galaxy (and reputedly credits paid from Hutts for specific raids and privateering). Prasc replaced the port, starboard, and aft turbolaser batteries with starfighter-scale weaponry meant to disable and replaced the capital scale tractor beams with starfighter scale ones.

Prasc has modified the starfighter bay to hold 3 more starfighters. He’s attempting to replace his old slightly modified A3a HKD Hawk’s with the new Improved Hawks, but so far has only been able to acquire 4, which serves as his elite interceptor squadron. He’s also been considering older Charger starfighters or some long-range starfighters, but prefers the simpler logistics of a single platform.

His success in the Betorok situation, sponsored by Jorga the Hutt, led to the destruction of all 11 of his modified A3a Hawk starfighters. He has replaced them and augmented his surviving “Elite Group” of Improved Hawk’s with additional starfighters while reputedly studying Alderaanian starfighter theory.

Privateers

With their mercenaries, both the Hutt Kadjics and the Mining Guild have issued letters of Marque against shipping going to and restricting access to Betorok’s Free Port. The Republic Fleet has pulled out of the blockade, but maintains trade with Betorok is illegal (a class II or III infraction), but having pulled out is unable to enforce it and has granted the Mining Guild jurisdiction to enforce their blockade in the region (though NOT independent judicial authority – the Mining Guild Enforcement Division can merely apprehend violators for prosecution in the Republic’s Selani Sector courts).

Slicers

Slicing has usually been no more a problem in Selani Sector than in any other industrial, lo-population Sector at the edge of the Expansion Region to the Galactic Frontier. Recently, everything from Fleet movements, shipping traffic, merc and bounty hunter locations, and related information have all become high credit commodities and slicing is sharply on the rise. Selani itself is usually the location where most of this takes place.

Smugglers

Smuggling of all sorts of goods (from medicinal goods to high technology to weaponry) into Betorok has naturally been an issue of recent concern (Class IV, III, and II infractions respectively). Smuggling the illegal zzonyg fruit off Jaryn-Halba has always been a nuisance, with the local farmers too unconcerned about its production (and often secretly producing it themselves). A similar situation exists with the Shorlaan Fixx plant illegally produced in reputedly sizable batches on Dijiphead, Yular, and recently to the newly colonized world of Muzara (all class IV infractions). The techno-religious government of Jaryn-Halba has severely restricted the access to many mostly mundane items (Class V infraction) but also high technology (a Class III infraction) and are truculent about locally restricting zzonyg production (normally a Class IV infraction).

Tramps

Tramps have always prospered in Selani Sector, as few of the larger corporations schedule over-frequent bulk freighters to the entire region, much less the sector itself. It’s estimated Tramps carry 40% of the cargo capacity in Selani Sector and several Corellian shipping concerns have eyed a challenge to the Orionis’ owned Selani Royal Shipping’s near-monopoly (due to the proximity of the Alderaanian investment in nearby Thaerrius Sector). Recently, many tramps have been reputedly engaging in smuggling and piracy, though it’s estimated to be mostly under limited circumstances and by a few “dark seeds.”
